Video editing invoice template
Video editing is priced per finished video, per finished minute, or by day rate, and clients routinely assume whichever is cheapest for them. The invoice is where that assumption gets corrected — or compounds into a dispute over deliverables that took twice the footage they sent.
This template names the billing basis on every line: the edit itself, revision rounds beyond the included ones, and rush turnaround as its own charge. Fill it in below and download the PDF free.
What video editors usually itemize
- The edit, named by deliverable and basis ("YouTube edit, 12-min final — per video" or "per finished minute")
- Revision rounds beyond the included count, as their own line — it disciplines scope
- Motion graphics, colour grade, or sound mix when they were quoted as add-ons
- Rush turnaround or weekend work stated plainly, not folded into the edit price
- Stock footage, music licensing, or transcription passed through at cost
Frequently asked questions
Per video, per finished minute, or day rate?
Per video suits repeatable formats like podcast clips and YouTube episodes. Per finished minute protects you when source footage balloons. Day rate fits open-ended agency work. Pick one per project and put it on the line item — mixed expectations are the classic editing dispute.
How many revision rounds should the price include?
One or two, stated in the quote and restated on the invoice ("includes 2 revision rounds"). Extra rounds get their own line at an agreed rate — which turns round four from an argument into a purchase.
Should I invoice before sending final files?
Common practice is a deposit up front and the balance on approval of the final cut, with project files or the un-watermarked master delivered on payment. Put that sequence in your terms so withholding files reads as process, not hostage-taking.
